In the recent xenophobic violence that engulfed Johannesburg, Yvonne Chaka Chaka’s daughter Fortunate, was amongst those whose shops reportedly got broken into and looted.
The music legend said she had been coming back from Namibia when this happened. She posted on Instagram about her frustration.
“I am dump founded and have lost faith. People protesting broken into my daughter’s shop and looted. All in the name of foreigners must leave SA. No man is an island my fellow brothers and sisters we all need each other,” she said.
She appealed to President Cyril Ramaphosa and other leaders to act on this and do something to stop it. She also touched on the femicide, rape and gender based violence crisis currently happening in South Africa.
“Girls are dying. Children are dying. Women are dying. On the other hand we are fighting our African brothers. What is the world coming to? Life has become so cheap, no respect for life and for one another. God have mercy.”
