 Idols SA star Thami Shobede dies

Thami Shobede who shot to fame after appearing on the music competition show Idols SA has passed away. The news was confirmed by his record label Gallo Record Company.

The 31 year old died at Kalafong Hospital in Pretoria on Thursday morning. General Manager at Gallo records Robert Cowling said the news was very unexpected and came as a shock.

“Gallo Record Company is extremely saddened and shocked to learn of the sudden passing of one of our artists Simphiwe Thamsanqa Shobede, fondly know as Thami,” Robert said.

He added that it came to their attention this morning that Thami was in hospital suffering from an illness and complications.

“His family went to see him in Atteridgeville hospital, where he passed away sometime just before noon this morning,” he expained. Robert also described Thami as having a “velvet” voice and very treasured in the company.

The young artist was nominated for the Best RnB Album at the 2018 SAMAs. Fans and celebrities alike have offered their condolences on Social Media and expressed their grief at the loss of such a gifted young life.
