Viacom finally announced that KB Motsilanyane and Bahumi will play Lebo Mathosa in the much anticipated late star’s six-part series Dream: The Lebo Mathosa Story.
In September it was speculated that Kelly Khumalo would play the adult version but the Asine singer was not part of the production.
Speaking to The Star, Bahumi said she felt tremendous pressure playing the role because of people’s expectations at the depiction of the icon. She said she doesn’t want to mess up the opportunity.
“You don’t want to screw it up. Not for the new generation or the older generation. They know the person they grew up with. Now having to depict that person based off the information you receive and hope you can put it all together and hope to do this justice, it is a lot of pressure but what really helps with that is praying a lot about it,” she said.
Award winning singer and actress KB also opened up about playing the part of an older Lebo. She said she was excited that these kinds of stories are being told.
“It is the first of its kind to be told. I am always looking at how the industry is evolving and how much of ourselves are we circulating among ourselves. Do our children know about us? Let’s tell our own stories. I also think having started this it will bring out the interest in others to tell a lot more stories and hopefully even mine one day,” she explained.
Dream: The Lebo Mathosa Story will premier on November 6 on BET Africa (DStv channel 129).
