SABC has distanced itself from claims of unpaid salaries for the SABC2 soapie, Muvhango. The broadcaster blamed the show’s production for the issue.
According to Sunday publications, the cast of the hit show did not receive their pay for October and November. This was reportedly due to lack of funds from the SABC.
The broadcaster’s spokesperson Mmoni Seapolelo spoke to the Sowetan about the allegations. “The SABC can confirm that the corporation has met all its financial obligations, for the current series of Muvhango which will be on air until 2 January 2020,” she said.
She also touched on the importance of compensating Word of Mouth Productions, which is responsible for producing Muvhango. “It is imperative to state that the SABC pays the production house, which has a responsibility to pay its cast and crew.”
