The reigning Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi ended her press tour in style this Tuesday. The beauty sat down with comedian and host of The Daily Show Trevor Noah for an interview.
Zozibini said her confidence at the Miss Universe pagaent was due to the people of Mzansi supporting her.
The Public Relations graduate also opened up about the backlash she received after it was announced that she would represent the country at the international pageant.
“International people started commenting and I think my most interesting one was when I came to New York, I think four months ago. I came back to SA. It was late in the evening and I took a photo of my apartment and I was like, ah, it’s such a beautiful night and a comment came in … saying ah, this photo is so black, it’s as black as you are, Miss ugly SA.’ ,” she explained.
She also touched on the colourism she experienced. “The further you are from being fair, the uglier you are. And I just saw it as an educational moment. I remember putting up a post speaking about it. Speaking about colourist, speaking about racism.”
