2019 was a year of celebrations, victories and many firsts for South Africa. It saw the people of Mzansi come together through the highs and lows. Here is a list of some of the most epic moments of the year:
Zozibini Tunzi winning Miss Universe
After being crowned Miss South Africa, the gorgeous Zozibini Tunzi entered Miss Universe 2019 an underdog and emerged victorious. The Public Relations graduate stunned at the pageant and impressed the judges with her smart replies in the Question and Answer session of the competition.
Springbok’s Rugby World Cup win
The Springboks lifting the Webb Ellis Cup was undoubtedly the greatest sporting moment of the year. The Boks headed to Japan to compete at the 2019 Rugby World Cup with the first black captain, Siya Kolisi. They came back champions, with the whole country welcoming them in celebration.
Trevor Noah’s Madison Square Garden show and Grammy Nomination
Trevor Noah made history this November when he became the first African comedian to fill up Madison Square Garden. The international superstar also bagged a Grammy nomination!
Anatii winning a Soul Train Award
Another local star who bagged an international accolade is rapper Anatii. He won the Ashford and Simpson Songwriter’s award at the Soul Train Awards for Beyonce’s hit song Brown Skin Girl.
Sho Madjozi’s song John Cena going viral
Sho Madjozi’s smash hit John Cena went viral with dance challenges popping on Social Media. Sho Madjozi also met her Idol, John Cena at The Kelly Clarkson Show. The hitmaker was surprised with the WWE entertainer whilst performing on the show.
