Joseph Shabalala will be given a state funeral. The Ladysmith Black Mambazo founder died last week after battling with an illness.
President Cyril Ramaphosa made the decision to grant the state funeral after being asked by KwaZulu- Natal government. Khusela Diko, the president’s spokesperson confirmed the news in a statement.
“The Special Official Funeral Category 2 entails ceremonial elements provided by the SA Police Service. The funeral will take place on February 22 2020,” the statement read.
The musician with be laid to rest in Ladysmith, KwaZulu- Natal this Saturday. “President Ramaphosa has reiterated his sincerest condolences to the Shabalala family, members of Ladysmith Black Mambazo and members of the arts and culture fraternities in SA and globally with whom Ladysmith Black Mambazo has collaborated for the better part of six decades.”
