Refilwe Modiselle has made history! She has bagged herself the Best actress award at The African Film Festival (TAFF). The talented model won for her role in White Gold, a story that follows an African woman with albinism.
The win is significant as no other woman with albinism has won such an accolade. She took to Instagram to share the news with fans. She said she hopes the award opens up the industry for diverse representation.
“The coveted award is coming home to me, Covid 19 could never stop God’s plans even though we couldn’t travel to grace this momentous occasion as we would have wishe. It was done digitally,” she wrote.
She expressed gratitude at her achievement and what it means for the whole industry. “I’m so grateful. Global love like this is planting a seed, for the change that is needed in the industry & the world at large on various levels,” she explained.
The African Film Festival (TAFF) 2020 was held in Texas in the U.S. Due to the coronavirus pandemic it took place digitally from 2 – 6 June. The festival showcases some of Africa’s best films.
