South Africa has lost another icon. Veteran actress Mary Twala passed away this past Saturday. The incredible entertainer lost her battle with illness at Netcare Park Lane Hospital. She was 80 years old.

The heartbreaking news was shared by her son, Somizi Mhlongo on Social Media. He said the idol died on his late father’s birthday. The Idols SA judge expressed his grief, saying he was shattered. He also praised his mother’s achievements, saying she lived beyond her wildest dreams.

South Africans have offered their condolences and tributes to the grieving family. The legendary actress was known for her electrifying performances in shows such as Skwizas, Hlala Kwabafileyo, Molo Fish, Ubizo: The Calling, Yizo-Yizo and more.

She also conquered the film industry, starring in numerous movies like Mapantsula, Sarafina!, Beat the Drum, Hopeville, Leading Lady, Beyond the River and others. Mzansi’s light shines a little less without this heroine. May she rest in peace.
